Secret History of the Earth
In 1985, NASA invited John Harris to join their Art Program . This involved a short period of touring the launch complex at Cape Canaveral and attending a launch of the Space Shuttle. It resulted in the painting 'Aftermath T+60', which now hangs in the Kennedy Space Centre and is part of the Smithsonian Collection.
Inspired by that commission, he began a series of painting of a more abstract nature, reflecting on Man's relationship with the Earth. The consequence of this work was the development of a visual language which is exclusive to these paintings. A fuller explanation of the techniques involved may be found in the vimeo film : The Secret History of the Earth.
